Aluminum or fiberglass groundbreaker flashing is placed just up under the bottom of the trimmed siding and extends below the last wood element on the home the sill plate.
Hpatio how far belwo siding.
Six inches would not be too far.
Moisture could build up and leak its way into your indoor flooring or between and under the siding inviting bigger problems.
That would vary with the installation but siding should pretty much never finish at the patio surface there should always be a gap and that will vary from 2 6 depending on the type of patio materials.
Below the top of the foundation but the lower the vinyl siding is installed the better.
The further the better.
Wood siding should be 4 or so from the ground whether that be soil or solid surface.
I opted for 3 1 2 in.
The wood is not sitting in a moist or wet condition so it is not wicking moisture.
The bottom of the starter strip the part the bottom panel hooks on to should be at least 1 in.
Many doors have a sill or threshold that needs to be supported so don t forget to install a kick plate under the door.
This allows the patio to be constructed 1 2 away from the sheathing giving an air gap that will allow moisture to drain and evaporate.
It protects the sheathing from rain snow and pests.
By installing the properly flashed deck at a level slightly below the home s flooring you can ensure that any water flows down and away from your primary structure.
That means that the patio must slope away from your house at least 1 4 inch per foot for at least the first 10 feet from the house exterior.
All hardscape within 10 feet of a building must slope away from the building with a minimum slope of 2 percent.
There s no magic number but i would recommend a minimum of 2 in.
